Hi, it’s me, Rosco! I am ready to find my forever home now! Currently I am fostered near Riverside CA. I am around 2 years old and a solid 30 pounds, with beautiful sable-colored fur.
I softly landed in FUR after my recent owner, who kept me in the back yard with access to the garage for shelter, decided that they did not have time for me.
There is another Frenchie and several dog-savy cats in my foster home, and I get along with them all. I play nicely with the resident Frenchie, and even though she’s ten pounds lighter than me, I let her win our wrestling bouts. I really love going for walks, and have decent stamina when the weather is Frenchie-appropriate (ie, not too hot.) I like my meals and yummy treats, too. In fact, I will gently take treats from your hand. I also like to chew on Nylabones and dog-safe bones. I’ve met the vacuum and the mop, and just ignore them. I quickly learned how to use a doggy door, and although I’m still practicing, foster mom says I am doing quite well indeed with my housetraining. Crates and exercise pens are not my fave, but I will settle down after a bit. I much prefer to be out and about. Foster mom lets me sleep in the big bed with her, and I have a funny habit of burying myself under the pillows.
My foster mom says that I’m a diamond in the rough and a bit of a bull in a china shop. Well, I’m not a diamond nor a bull- I’m just a Frenchie with a lot of excitable energy, but I’m still a young boy. I get excited when you come home so I might do a bit of jumping up on you. Don’t get me wrong- I truly enjoy a good nap or relaxing on the couch with you while you watch tv or read a book. I absolutely love chin scratches and belly rubs- the more the better!
I appear to be very healthy, yet I have the typical Frenchie breathing issues when I’m nervous or overly excited due to brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, which is common in short-nosed dogs. Lucky for you, I don’t snore loudly.
Now here’s the part where I really, really need the patience and assistance of my new family. I suffer from extreme stranger-danger fear, perhaps from a lack of socialization or perhaps from past negative experiences with the 2-legged kind. I am frightened by people I do not know, and want to run away from them or rush them and bark loudly. I will need a lot of help learning that people will not hurt me, and this will be a slow and steady process that you must be committed to.
Due to this lack of socialization, I am unsure about new experiences until I learn that I am safe. Right now, I am working on getting more comfortable with being picked up (I pee a little still), and I am practicing to confidentially descend stairs.
Once you have earned my trust, my bond with you is solid and strong. Where you go, I go. You will never have to go to the bathroom alone, because I will become your personal bathroom attendant! I wish nothing more than to be by your side. I might even try to barge out the front door because I want to go with you. I will be your “ride or die“ partner.
Because of my exuberant energy, I might knock over young children, and because of my timidness, I would probably do better in a family with older teens who can ensure that exposure to people is controlled.
If you are looking for a big, beautiful, beefy buddy and can promise to offer a loving, patient, understanding forever home, then I’m your boy!
