MEET LUKE! A SWEETHEART WITH A HEART OF GOLD LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME
Luke's story didn't start out happily, but this sweet boy is ready for the next chapter, one filled with comfort, cuddles, and unconditional love.
At just 21 pounds, Luke has already overcome more than any dog should have to. He was carelessly abandoned outside a shelter in heartbreaking condition. He was severely underweight and suffering from extensive skin and ear infections, multiple wounds, and a deep, severely infected laceration beneath his right eye.
Thanks to extensive veterinary care and the dedication of his medical team and foster family, Luke has made tremendous progress. His recovery has involved numerous treatments, medications, and specialist visits. While he is doing much better, Luke does have ongoing medical needs, including chronic ear issues and continued care for his facial wounds. He will likely need long-term medication, daily face cleanings, ear drops, medicated baths, and regular veterinary and dermatology follow-ups. His future family will need to be comfortable continuing his care and giving him the extra attention he deserves.
But enough about his past. Let's talk about the little guy who will steal your heart!
Luke is a mellow, affectionate gentleman whose idea of a perfect day includes snacks, naps, short walks, a little fetch, and lots of cuddles. He loves people, does well with children and other dogs, and may be compatible with some cats depending on their personalities.
He has the cutest way of greeting his favorite people, often bringing along a toy, a shoe (don't worry, he doesn't chew them!), or his beloved blanket. He absolutely LOVES car rides and gets so excited when it's time to go. He also enjoys following his foster mom around and settling in wherever she happens to be. His favorite place? Curled up in a lap or snoozing right at your feet.
Luke is crate trained and generally does well with his potty routine, although he may occasionally have an accident if left alone longer than he can comfortably manage. He has a medium-to-low energy level and is happiest in a calm, loving environment. He gets along with other dogs but would prefer canine companions who are more mellow and don't play too rough. He can be a little vocal when visitors arrive, but is easily redirected.
What kind of home is Luke looking for?
Ideally, Luke would love a family where someone is home often, with a yard for easy outdoor access. A yard is especially important given his anticipated long-term steroid use and need for frequent potty breaks. Most importantly, he needs a family who understands his medical needs, is committed to his continued care, and will give him the patience and love he deserves.
Could you be the happily-ever-after Luke has been waiting for?
If you have room in your heart and home for this special boy, please apply to adopt Luke! He has spent enough time fighting to feel better. Now it's time for him to enjoy the good life.
