🍬 Meet Twinkie — A Sweet Treat with a Tough Shell 🍬
11 months old | 18 lbs | French Bulldog | Female
Just like the snack she’s named after, Twinkie is soft and sweet on the inside — but it may take some time and patience before you get to the filling.
Twinkie came to our rescue after a rough start in life. Surrendered after suffering an eye injury (caused by a cat), Twinkie is now looking for a very special home that can help her heal — both physically and emotionally. She’s had a hard past, likely including abuse and neglect, and is still learning how to feel safe in a world that hasn’t always been kind to her.
🐾 Twinkie’s Favorite Things:
Snuggling on your shoulder like a baby koala 🐨
Watching you cook like a tiny sous chef 👩🍳
Her pink squeaky pumpkin toy (don’t try to take it!) 🎃
Chew toys of any kind — they’re her comfort objects 💞
Following her people everywhere 🐾
Twinkie is happiest when she’s close to her trusted humans. Once she bonds with you, she’s incredibly affectionate, goofy, and loyal. Her foster family includes a Pomeranian she loves and plays well with, but she’s not a fan of big dogs — and we mean not a fan in the “turns into a tiny linebacker” kind of way.
⚠️ Important Facts:
Reactivity: Twinkie can be reactive and snippy with new people and dogs at first. Introductions must be extremely slow and carefully managed.
Rough Play: Sometimes she can play rough and it can be overbearing for some dogs.
Separation Anxiety: She becomes very distressed when left alone, including barking and door scratching. Using calming music and enrichment toys have helped her a bit.
Potty Training: She’s about 90% of the way there now after recovering from a recent UTI.
Sensitive Stomach: No salmon, please! She’s doing well on Acana Limited Ingredient Diet, but she’s prone to diarrhea if her diet shifts.
🩺 Medical Care:
Twinkie is currently receiving eye ointment three times a day. She does have corneal cloudiness from the scratch, and she’s still on a steroid ointment as part of her healing process. She’ll need a family that’s diligent about her veterinary care and can keep up with her eye medications as needed.
🏡 Twinkie’s Ideal Home:
Only dog home or home with small non-dominant dogs.
Dog savvy children
An adopter experienced with reactivity in dogs
Able to provide a calm, structured environment
Someone home often or who can manage separation anxiety with consistency and patience
With the right family, Twinkie will be the most loyal, loving, and quirky companion you could ask for. She needs someone willing to take the time to earn her trust and give her the safe, loving forever home she’s never had.
